Security Council

Theme: Persian Gulf War

Freeze Date: 2nd August, 1990

The First Persian Gulf War, also known as the Gulf War was an armed conflict between Iraq and a coalition of 39 nations including the United States, Britain and France. It was a result of Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990, which shall be the freeze date of the committee. In justifying his invasion of Kuwait, Saddam Hussein claimed it was an artificial state carved out of the Iraqi coast by Western colonialists but the fact remains that Kuwait had been internationally recognized as a separate entity before Iraq itself was created by Britain under a League of Nations mandate after World War I. With the theme and freeze date set to take us back in time to the Persian Gulf War, The committee shall deal with legal questions of intervention, state sovereignty and international interference with continuous live updates rolling in to make for a highly engrossing discussion.

Message: I welcome you to the 2019 edition of Indian Model United Nations Conference and I thank you for choosing the Historic Security Council as your committee. Being an experienced debater, I can tell you that during the course of debate, you will have your ups and downs, agreements and disagreements with continuous negotiation and deliberation. Consider this to be a rollercoaster ride which shall go on for 3 days. 3 days to read, research, listen, negotiate, deliberate and eventually walk out as a more knowledgeable person. Always remember that your first and foremost goal for doing MUNs should be to become a better and wiser version of yourself. On that note, I wish all participants the very best of luck for the most prestigious conference in India, INMUN 2019.

Advice for new delegates ?

Though the Security Council is for the seasoned MUNer, new delegates should always keep in mind that participation is the most important element towards learning and expanding your knowledge. Its rather simple, Just don’t get scared .  Speak confidently and make sure to present your research in an effective manner as that is what creates an impact in the committee.

INMUN is more than just a debating platform, Its a place where you not only debate upon issues that affect the entire world but also work on the two most important life skills and those being communication and reasoning. I’ve been attending INMUN since 2016 and it has indeed helped me become much more confident with regards  to what I want to say and the logical reasoning behind it. At INMUN, you get a very formal setting and that is what makes INMUN all the more special as it is a genuine  simulation of the United Nations.
